CloseUp® Firmware Revision History
Firmware is the software that run on the processor inside the CloseUp® hardware. Sometimes Your Heaven® Audio makes improvements to the firmware to address customer issues or introduce new features.
Update to the latest firmware release by connecting your CloseUp® System to a computer with internet access and starting the latest version of the CloseUp® System Software. Begin the profiling process until you see a dialog prompting you to upgrade the CloseUp®’s firmware.

Enhancement: Improved USB Audio quality! The CloseUp System’s USB audio interface now records and plays back with 24-bit precision, similar to other professional-grade audio interfaces. This increases audio resolution by 256x compared to the previous firmware! While the digital audio path within the CloseUp was always 24-bit, now you can access that quality directly on your computer or mobile device.
Important Note for Windows Users for this Update
Windows Users: For this update, please exit the app as soon as the update progress bar in the next step is complete and power down your CloseUp System. If you don’t, you may need to reboot your computer before the CloseUp System app will work again.
This release is recommended for all users.
Note: This firmware version requires version 2.2.0 or later of the CloseUp® System Software. Please download, install, and launch it on a computer connected to the internet. When you connect your CloseUp® System to the software, it will prompt you to update the firmware
If you are updating from firmware version 15 or below (if the lower knob on your CloseUp® System controls Input Gain), please read the entry below for version 16, as major changes to the gain controls of the CloseUp® System were made in that version.
For older Mac OS X versions: firmware update on Mac may not work on macOS 10.7 “Lion” and 10.8 “Mountain Lion”, even though other functions of the CloseUp System Software 2.0 are supported on these older operating systems. Rest assured that Your CloseUp System will not be harmed if this happens, because the error stops the process before any new firmware is programmed onto it. Firmware update is tested only as far back as macOS 10.11 “El Capitan”. If you do not have access to a Mac with a newer operating system, or a Windows PC with Windows 7+ to perform the update, please contact support@yourheaven.net and we’ll help you get your firmware updated one way or another.

Improved: USB audio interface reliability, latency, and clock stability. When the CloseUp is connected to a computer or mobile device via USB to record and/or play audio, occasional audio glitches in playback no longer occur (at least not due to the CloseUp – other factors may still cause clicks and pops), input and output latency are both significantly lower (great for live FX and overdubbing), and the CloseUp’s audio clock synchronizes more closely with the USB host, improving the sound quality of recordings.
Fix: there is no longer extremely high USB audio playback latency on iOS.
Fix: When switching to a different profile while in USB Monitor Mode, the position of USB Monitor (Tone) knob is now respected when the new profile is loaded. You no longer have to move the knob for the Zero-Latency Monitoring Level setting to be recognized.

- New Feature: Update to this version to allow the profiling of any instrument on any CloseUp® System! We’ve been able to unify the algorithms for all instruments compatible with the CloseUp® System into one firmware edition and make them available on every CloseUp® System. Simply purchase an additional affordable CloseUp® Mic from Your Heaven® Audio to use your CloseUp® System processor with any instrument we support. We can’t offer support for using a CloseUp® microphone on an instrument type it was not designed for, but now there’s nothing stopping you from experimenting.
- Improved the settings that are on the device after a factory reset.

- Important fix: This release fixes an issue where the CloseUp System could sometimes create loud distortion if booted up while set to a profile that has an input gain of 23dB-27dB.
This release is recommended for all users.
Note: This firmware version requires version 2.0.0 or later of the CloseUp® System Software. To check if you need to update, choose “Check For Software Update” from the “Options” menu. If you are notified of a new version, please download and install it. When you next connect to your CloseUp® System, it will prompt you to update the firmware. Detailed information about updating and changes to the CloseUp System Software is available here.

- Change: The CloseUp® System now works more easily with live streaming software! When using the CloseUp® as a USB audio interface, the sound of your instrument is now sent to both the Left and Right input channels, instead of just the Left. This way it will appear in both speakers if used directly with a video conference program, or any other software that does not allow control of channel routing. The names of the USB input channels are changed to reflect this.

- New Feature: Add 12 more dB of gain to Output Level knob (labeled as input gain on older units). “Unity” is now located at about 2:30 (clock marking) on the Knob. Note: this change allows you to set the output gain to 12dB above Unity, meaning that very loud playing can now result in overloads and distortion even if the Input Gain (aka Mic Volume) is set so the input is not overloading. The red LED will now indicate both input and output overloads.
- New Feature: Overload indicator (red LED flash) now indicates if the overload is due to the input gain being set too high (fast flash for 1 second), or the Output Level/Footswitch Boost being set too high (slow flash for 2 seconds). In other words: if you see a slow flash, turn down your Output Level or disable Boost. If you see a fast flash, instead switch into Dual Gain Mode and turn down your Input Gain (aka Mic Volume) with the Tone Knob.
- Change: Reduced maximum Footswitch Boost to +12dB. This reduction was necessary in order to accommodate the added gain on the output knob, where it is more useful. The same amount if gain is available, it is now just split between the Output Gain Knob and the Footswitch Boost function. A sudden boost of greater than 12dB would be dangerous for feedback reasons anyway. _Note:_ The CloseUp® Software may still display Boost options above 12dB, but the CloseUp® System will cap the setting to a maximum of 12dB. Refreshing the Device Settings page will show the true stored value.
- Fix for an issue where only left (+) channel of line output was active at startup until the user either switched profiles or changed the Output Routing, resulting in an impedance balanced output instead of a true balanced output at startup.
- Fix for a situation in which making drastic changes in Input Gain via the Tone Knob while in Dual Gain Mode could result in an unexpected gain setting.

Important: This firmware version and later require version 2.0.0 or later of the CloseUp® System Software. To check if you need to update, choose “Check For Software Update” from the “Options” menu. If you are notified of a new version, please download and install it. When you next connect to your CloseUp® System, it will prompt you to update the firmware. Detailed information about updating and the changes in this version is available here.
- New and improved method of gain control on the CloseUp® System: The knob labeled Input Gain will now function as Output Level instead. This means you can now set the analog output to the best level for the gear you are connecting to, without changing the optimal the gain setting of the CloseUp’s Mic. Additionally, the input gain will now always be correct for your instrument, no matter what the knob is set to, avoiding accidental overloads. From now on, you will set input gain individually for each profile in one of the following ways:
- automatically when profiling
- in Device Settings (manually or automatically using your instrument)
- on the CloseUp® System itself (if you don’t have a computer handy)
- Input gain now stored individually in profiles and recalled when profile selected.
- Dual Gain feature removed (new gain control method provides the same functionality).
- Input gain of active profile can be adjusted without a computer using Dual Gain Switch and Tone Knob together: Center Tone Knob. Switch Dual Gain to ON to make tone knob a relative control for input gain of the active profile. Switch Dual Gain back to OFF to store the gain setting in the profile and restore normal Tone Knob functionality.
- Mute Switch now silences USB audio playback as well as mic input (if mute triggered via footswitch or mic disconnection, USB playback is still heard, as before).
- Fix for potential issue in windows where audio recordings in profiling would not trigger: detection of instrument playing for starting profiling recordings now takes place in the firmware as well as the computer software for increased reliability.

- Important Enhancement: Gain Boost (alternate mute pedal function) no longer makes a pop when enabled/disabled and is indicated by solid red LED when enabled.
- Input overload now causes a rapid flashing of the red LED instead of solid for clearer indication.
- Timing of overload indication is now consistent when running on battery power vs USB or 9VDC power.
- Overload indication now takes into account Gain Boost and indicates overload at the correct level when Gain Boost is on.

- Improve mic detection to avoid spurious triggers with some Gen III mics on some CloseUp® units.
11
2018-03-20
- Add option to disable automatic mic detection in SEQ007+. Useful for wireless mic adapters, etc.
10
2018-03-13
- Add support for Mandolin.
9
2018-02-20
- Use Gen III Mics by default.
- Improve predictability of timing of auto-muting/unmuting when mic is plugged in or unplugged.
- “Dual Gain” switch now only engages Dual Gain Mode if there is a reason for it to be used (ie if there are any profiles on the unit that use the alternate input). If there are none, the switch has no effect. This way, users won’t lose the use of the Tone control if they accidentally turning on the Dual Gain switch.
